Phonics Declares the Glory of God!
Even if you do not have a specific game planned for a phonics/language lesson, you can still draw in the interest of students–while also illuminating the character of God.
Share your love for God's Creation to the students: "Have you ever stared in wonder at a sunset before, seeing all of its beautiful colors, your eyes open wide at the endlessness of the sky? Maybe some of you love taking out your camera and taking pictures of them! It is worthy of a photo–God put such detail into the work of every sunset. It is such a beautiful gift from Him. But have you ever looked with those same wide eyes and wonder at words and letters that we are learning each week?"
Language is also a gift from God.

God gave us language so that we could speak with Him, understand His Word, and have a personal relationship with Him. Humans are the only creatures that God has made who have mouths to speak words. He carefully crafted our mouths to be able to sound out words and learn new letters. When we see written words, our minds quickly process them and we get faster and faster at recognizing, forming, and reading those words! That leaves me in awe of God, too.
"In phonics/language today, we will get to take a lot of pictures of some beautiful things God has made! Hold up your cameras when I say, “Picture time!” aim and look through your lens at the new words we are learning, and say, “3…2…1… click!” as a class."
Admiring God's Work

Camera Visuals: You can make little class cameras by printing out or drawing your own. Cut them carefully, then use a small utility knife to cut out a window in the top corner. When you laminate them, this window will become see-through, so students can look through as they aim to take their pictures throughout the lesson.
